Ancient Chinese sexologists understood that men routinely shorten their lives with their tendency to ejaculate indiscriminately. They viewed semen as life giving and life sustaining. At some point, it became obvious to them that intelligent sexual behavior merited a thoughtful and individualized conservation program.

When Men Ejaculate They Lose Energy

With their superior understanding of the human subtle energy system, the Chinese sages understood that when men ejaculate they lose vital energy (women generally do not). They lose their erection. They lose their sexual desire. In some cases, they even lose immediate interest in their partner. However, the most significant loss may be loss of the opportunity to further heighten and intensify the energetic buildup that is needed to open the heart and awaken the spiritual faculties in the brain. If energy loss is part of your habitual sexual behavior pattern, sex can become destructive. With energy loss, creativity suffers, vitality plummets, and a man’s sense of sexual fulfillment may be severely diminished. When a man’s energy system is drained, he feels small and emotionally empty—as if he has lost a piece of himself.

Ejaculation Is a Shortsighted Goal

Sadly, most untrained men still believe that the brief rush of pleasure that ejaculation affords them is their highest option. Many of these men are burdened by their addiction to “getting off.” Those men who are the most sexually active are particularly vulnerable to energy depletion and the many difficulties that ensue. In many instances, these men have spent a lifetime repeatedly sabotaging their chances of elevating their sexual experiences by squandering sexual energy. In their ignorance, they remain incorrectly focused on the shortsighted goal of ejaculation rather than the deeper, richer, and more pleasurable orgasmic process of lovemaking.

Ejaculation and Orgasm Are Not the Same

Until now, far too many men have made the erroneous assumption that ejaculation and orgasm are one and the same. This is unfortunate, but understandable, since, from our earliest sexual explorations, men have observed over and over that ejaculation and orgasm always happen together. What we haven’t been told is that they are two distinct physical processes and that it’s very useful to learn how to separate one from the other. It is vital that both men and women understand the distinction between male ejaculation and orgasm. Male ejaculation is a very local genital release. A release is a negative phenomenon—you simply lose energy. Orgasm is a totally different animal. Orgasm engulfs the entire body, mind, and spirit. By refraining from genital release, men can learn to substitute orgasm(s) for ejaculation. Once this skill is mastered, the habitual male sexual routine of ejaculating with every orgasm will be seen for what it is—sheer lunacy.

Male Ejaculation Is Not a Peak Experience

One thing is certain: male ejaculation is not the peak experience that we have been led to believe it is. The secret is finally out! By withholding their climaxes, men can share the most blissful, loving, and intensely satisfying orgasmic exchanges with their partner(s) without any loss of energy. This is significant, since the cultivation and transmutation of sexual energy is fundamental to spiritual growth; indeed, it is its very basis. Now is the time for the men on this planet to begin to see their sexual behavior in a vastly different light for the benefit of their own health and for their own spiritual evolution.

These Teachings Have Been Kept Secret

The principles that I am sharing with you have been taught in the “mystery schools” of the Far East for thousands of years, although they have been relatively unknown in the West until fairly recently. Mystery schools were created as secret societies to prevent outside interference as initiates (those who decided to leave the mundane life for the adventure of pursuing higher consciousness) attempted to bridge the gap between the material and the spiritual worlds. Until I attended my first tantric workshop, I was completely unaware of these principles. Though my first impression of them was one of shock and skepticism, upon deeper reflection I became increasingly inspired by their coherent guidelines relating to energy cultivation, the pursuit of higher consciousness, physical rejuvenation, longevity, and harmonious sexual relations. It wasn’t too long before I became a dedicated student determined to integrate tantric teachings into my way of living in the world.

A New Sexual Paradigm

In examining “The Potency Principles”, it must be noted that the word “potency” means both power and strength. However, because of its association with manhood and virility, it has come to imply male sexual power. In the old paradigm, male sexual power is so strongly linked with a rock hard, pulsating erection, that failure to attain one in a timely manner is considered dysfunctional and inadequate. However, in the new sexual paradigm, a man’s ability to direct internal energy, whether or not his penis is erect, is the real measure of his sexual power. In other words, potency is energy mastery, because that is what offers the optimum benefits for him and his partner. Similarly, the conservation of semen, in contrast to the “cum shot” of pornographic fame, is the hallmark of potency in the new sexual paradigm. Though considering potency in this way may seem strange to you at first, as you assimilate these principles and begin to implement them in your life, you will discover a deeper sexual power that is based first and foremost on energy cultivation and expanding spiritual awareness.

An Evolutionary Leap in Consciousness

My hope is that this book will assist men, and the women who love them, in exploring the merits of tantric sex. Sacred sex has an important role to play in the evolution of our species and the perfecting of our culture. My purpose is to demystify tantric lovemaking so that all men and women are able to comprehend its philosophical and practical aspects, and ultimately integrate it into their lifestyle.
