St. Valentine's Day Gift
Saint Valentine’s Day has its origins in the days of Goddess worship. The Roman’s festival to the Goddess of love fever, Juno Februata, included strips of paper with women’s names on them. Young men would choose the "notes" and erotic games would ensue.
Much later, St. Valentine, whom scholars say is mythical, became the patron of lovers, though the Christian holidays were a much more toned down - affair. Love notes evolved and the sexual rites of early spring, even in the Middle Ages, involved secret rituals, love potions and spells.
Humans have for thousands of years "called down the Goddess" to sanctify the bedchamber. Create a magical evening that the two of you will remember. Combine some of the ideas that follow and use your imagination. The intention, focus and love are the most important part.
-
Make an altar with your partner. Bring aspects of your self and your union with your lover together to represent the vision you hold.
-
Choose flowers for your lover that are erotic looking and that look
like the vagina.
-
Illuminate! Bring out as many candles as you can find. Arrange them in safe places that balance the energy in the room and create a feeling of warmth and sensual excitement. Save the last one to light together.
-
Bring an intention to your lovemaking ritual. At the beginning, face each other, each of you place your right hand on the heart of the other and your left hand over the hand of your partner. You are holding their hand to your heart. Each of you take turns calling in what you love about the other and what you aspire to for the coming year together. Eye gaze and breathe, as one, for a few minutes before you begin to make love.
-
If you have a Tarot deck of cards, place them on the altar you’ve created and do a sacred reading for each other. Be relaxed about the interpretations. Use your intuition, both of you, to "read" the cards. This isn’t serious - it’s fun.
Throughout history most cultures have used ritual objects for sacred ceremony. This includes bringing in aspects of the Elements.
Those elements:
- Fire, Water, Earth and Air - help us remember what is important in our lives.
- For Fire you can use the candles.
- For Water you can bathe and bring your favorite drink into the bedroom.
- The representation of Earth can be a massage with particular attention to the feet - the part of us that walks on the Earth. And fruit for the "fruits of the Earth."
- Air can be represented by incense, a mirror and visualizing what you aspire to as a couple.
